New York Foundation for Senior Citizens is dedicated to helping New York's seniors enjoy healthier, safer, more productive and dignified lives in their own homes and communities and to help them avoid the need for premature institutionalization.
A wonderful tribute to a wonderful person.Alma Rangel spent decades making sure Harlem's seniors had a place to live with dignity. She was a social worker, a community builder, and the founder of the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses. She led the Ralph J. Rangel Foundation, providing scholarships to students across the country. And for over 46 years, she served as Vice Chair of the New York Foundation for Senior Citizens, work that resulted in the Alma Rangel Gardens, 89 units of affordable housing for low and moderate income seniors right here in Harlem on West 137th Street. That building carries her name because it carries her values. She passed on September 16, 2024, at 99 years old. Senator Cleare honored her life with a formal New York State Senate mourning resolution.Rest well, Mrs. Rangel. Harlem stands in your building. 🌹#senatorcordellecleare #WomensHistoryMonth #AlmaRangel #Harlem #HarlemHistory #SeniorHousing #BlackWomenInHistory #HerStory #BlackExcellence #BlackWomen #WomenWhoBuilt #HousingIsAHumanRight #CongressionalBlackCaucus #WomensHistoryMonth2026 #HarlemLegacy ...
