Located on Manhattan's Lower East Side, George Daly House provides a short-term housing alternative to the City's shelters. Housed in some 88 single and double- occupancy rooms, men and women residents benefit from a variety of individual and group services. The atmosphere is upbeat and positive, helping residents to be more constructive in their lives. Assistance ranges from personal finance classes, resume workshops, and dealing with landlords, to cooking instruction and improving self- esteem. Residents can access appropriate social services and financial assistance, and receive medical and psychiatric attention. They are also linked up with self-help organizations such as Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. The ultimate objective of George Daly House? To help residents get back on their feet and return to permanent housing in the larger community. | ||||||||||
